A comfortable mattress is important when good back health is to be achieved. Finding the right mattress to give you a good night's sleep means getting both the right support and the right level of comfort.
If you've got the wrong mattress for you (or your mattress is old and tired now) – you can make your pain worse.
Have the right support
A good mattress will gently support your whole body and keep your spine in a neutral position – no matter if you’re lying on your back, front or side. Pay attention to your pressure points when choosing a new bed (these will be the heaviest parts of your body).
Beware of the wrong mattress
If your mattress doesn't give you the right body support by promoting poor sleeping posture, it's the wrong mattress for you. If a mattress doesn’t meet your personal preferences then your comfort is compromised, resulting in interrupted sleep that can leave you feeling tired and sore in the morning.
All mattresses will eventually decline in their support, so you should consider replacing your mattress every 8 to 10 years.
Try before you buy
Before you buy, make sure that you try several mattresses. Lie down and rest for 10 minutes in your preferred sleeping position. This will give you a good guide to the comfort and support you get from the mattress.

Honor your desires individually
There’s no one miracle mattress that will be suitable for every single person with back pain. Any mattress that will help you sleep without pain, discomfort or interruption will be the best mattress for you. Choose a mattress that meets your personal criteria for comfort and support and start getting a good night’s sleep.
Avoid partner disturbance
Our sleeping patterns will never be exactly the same, no matter how similar we are to another person. The biggest problem for couples sharing a bed is interrupted sleep from the movements of a partner. Find a mattress and bed base that minimizes the disturbance of the partner.
